Translation Manager (Remote)
Summary
As Translation Manager, you will lead and mentor a team of around 10 in-house translators, while also contributing hands-on translations in your primary language(s). You will define translation strategy, set localization priorities, and ensure all translated content meets Chess.com’s quality, brand, SEO, and AI-readiness standards. This role works closely with SEO and engineering teams to optimize multilingual content for global visibility and emerging AI platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of ~10 in-house translators, including performance reviews and workload planning
Define and execute a global translation and localization strategy aligned with business and content goals
Translate content directly in your primary language(s), ensuring accuracy in complex chess terminology
Partner with SEO and engineering teams to optimize localized content for search engines and AI-driven platforms
Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure consistency, brand voice, and high standards across all languages
Research and apply AI and CAT tools to improve translation efficiency and output quality
Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, or related field
3+ years of experience in translation management or team leadership
Fluent English plus native or near-native fluency in at least one additional language
Strong knowledge of chess rules, concepts, and technical terminology
Practical experience with SEO for localized content
Advanced proficiency in CAT tools and interest in AI-powered translation
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
